2016 Christmas Gift Guide

2016 Christmas Gift Guide

Campfire Guy here.  I’ve been feeling some pressure from Campfire Wife to give her a list of what I want for my birthday and for Christmas.  Since those both fall in December this year, I reprioritized my posting schedule and jumped onto a few convenient websites to do some shopping.  I own both the Traverse Backpack, LuminAid Pack light, Anker battery pack.   The rest of these are a wish list.  If you have any experience with the other stuff or know a guy who sells legit Nintendo Classics from the back of his van, hit me up in the comments section.

Electronics

Nintendo NES Classic  – Hurry up and go watch the trailer.  Then try to find (me) one.  When this system was announced a few months ago, my first reaction was, “how quickly can I fork over $60 for this, take my money please!!!”  With the listed retailers currently being sold out, I fear NES classic is going to be like the Cabbage Patch kid phenomenon of the 80’s, only without the fights.  Maybe.

Vargo Ultimate Fire Starter – Way for fun to start a fire than a Bic lighter.

LuminAID PackLite Inflatable Solar Lantern – 2 Pack We have two of these solar powered, inflatable LED lamps.  They work really well clipped to the inside peak of your tent.  Way less blindy inside the tent than your traditional head lamp.

UCO A120 Comfort Fit Head Lamp – Speaking of head lamps, I need a new one.  Comfort AND head lamp?  Sold.

Anker Power Core 10000 –  I already have this little power brick but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t too.  This past weekend, with only half power on the Anker, I fully charged my dead iPad once and my dead iPhone twice.  The Anker still had plenty of juice.  It’s a little on the heavy side, but it has come in handy when camping sans power.

Hiking

REI Traverse 48 Backpack – First things first.  I am a Fightin’ Texas Aggie and this back pack is burnt ugly orange (Sorry Aunt Mary!).  I have a solution involving an aTm patch and a sawed off longhorn patch.  Owned this one for just a minute last year, but took it back after settling on my Gossamer Gear Mariposa.  Fortunately, I just got this for my birthday.  Cannot wait to use it!  This pack hugs you like a baby koala.

The Ultimate Hang – I’m slowly dipping my toe into hammock camping and theultimatehang.com has been a fantastic resource in my research.  His online articles and illustrations really help explain the finer points of hammock gear, tarps, knots and how not to freeze at night in a hammock.  I imagine the book would even further simplify hammock camping, which is nice because I’m a simpleton.

Spyderco Delica4 Lightweight Knife – I’ve been looking for a smaller profiled knife that doesn’t have a serrated edge.  You can never have too many knives and this one looks to be a keeper.

Grilling

Collapsible Camping Grill and Chimney Starter – Essential for Dutch oven cooking and when you need to fold things up.

Foldable Stainless Steel Charcoal Grill – THIS ONE FOLDS UP TOO!

Franklin Barbecue: A Meat-Smoking Manifesto – Gotta have something to do with those hot coals from above.
